Welcome to the Technical Analysis module, the largest section of this Learning Hub. This module is organized into four groups: Chart Foundations, Price Action & Structure, Volume & Indicators, and Patterns & Practical Framework. This first unit introduces the foundational concept underlying the entire module: what technical analysis actually is.
This overview introduces three areas covered in this unit: price action, trend and market structure; what technical analysis can and cannot do; and how it compares to fundamental analysis, first introduced in the Trading Essentials module.

What Is Technical Analysis?
Technical analysis is the study of historical price behaviour, typically displayed on charts, to understand market structure and inform analysis of an instrument. Unlike fundamental analysis, which examines underlying economic, financial, and political factors (covered in detail in the Trading Essentials module), technical analysis focuses primarily on price itself, and related data such as volume.
The Core Building Blocks
At its foundation, technical analysis relies on price action (the raw movement of price over time), trend (the general direction that movement has taken), and market structure (the broader pattern of highs, lows, and price behaviour that emerges from price action over time). These three interconnected concepts are explored in this unit's first lesson.
Why This Module Comes After Fundamental Analysis
Having covered fundamental analysis in the Trading Essentials module and various market-moving factors throughout the Market Guides module, this Technical Analysis module provides the complementary skill set — analyzing price itself, rather than the underlying factors that influence it. Many traders use both approaches together, a comparison explored in this unit's final lesson.
