USD/JPY BREAKS ABOVE 155 AS TREASURY YIELDS SUPPORT USD

USD/JPY moved back above 155.00 during the week’s opening sessions, reaching a one-week high as rising US Treasury yields continued to support the US Dollar. Market attention remains focused on the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy decision and guidance.

The benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield climbed to 5.03%, reaching its highest level since 2007, as global bond yields moved higher. Higher yields have strengthened demand for the Dollar, becoming an important driver for USD/JPY movements.

Rising inflation expectations and higher energy prices have increased market expectations for a 25-basis-point Fed rate increase at Wednesday’s meeting. However, the next direction for USD/JPY may depend less on the expected rate decision itself and more on the signals from policymakers regarding future policy adjustments.

The bond market remains a key factor for currency markets. If the Federal Reserve maintains a more restrictive stance and highlights ongoing inflation concerns, elevated Treasury yields could continue to provide support for USD/JPY.

From a technical perspective, the move above 155.00 marks an important near-term level for USD/JPY. However, sustained momentum will depend on whether the pair can maintain gains while markets assess the Fed’s policy outlook and Treasury yield movements.

For market participants, the key factors remain US Treasury yields, Federal Reserve policy signals and the 155.00 level, which may provide further context for the next move in USD/JPY.
