BOE HOLDS RATES IN FOCUS AS HIGH ENERGY PRICES CHALLENGE POLICY OUTLOOK
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said the pass-through from higher energy prices to inflation remains relatively limited so far, while noting that the situation is still developing. The comments keep inflation and energy costs in focus for the BoE’s future policy decisions.
Bailey warned that the longer energy prices remain elevated, the more difficult it could become for the central bank to maintain its current stance without raising interest rates. This keeps energy prices and inflation expectations as important factors for the British Pound.
The BoE is also taking higher mortgage rates into account when assessing economic and monetary conditions, adding another consideration to the UK interest-rate outlook.
Looking further ahead, Bailey highlighted Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a potential positive supply-side factor that could support economic conditions by improving productive capacity.
Following the comments, GBP/USD was around 1.3240, gaining approximately 0.15% on Friday. Market attention remains focused on UK inflation developments, energy prices and future BoE policy signals.
For market participants, the key factors remain UK inflation expectations, energy prices, BoE rate expectations, GBP/USD movements and the 1.3240 area, which may provide further context for the currency pair.
