Nvidia Outperforms as Broader Technology Shares Lose Momentum
Global equity momentum moderated near record highs as technology and semiconductor shares came under pressure. The S&P 500 declined 0.17%, finishing just below the previous session’s record high, while the Stoxx 600 gained 0.04% and reached another record closing level.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 1.40%, giving back part of its recent advance, although it remained 6.17% higher for the week. AMD declined 7.04% after its guidance fell short of some of the market’s more optimistic expectations.
Nvidia was a notable exception, gaining 3.43%. According to Deutsche Bank’s commentary, the stock benefited from positive discussion surrounding its next-generation Rubin architecture and further corporate demand for Nvidia artificial-intelligence chips.
Technology-heavy Asian markets also weakened. The Kospi declined 4.18%, with SK Hynix falling 6.68% and Samsung Electronics losing 4.55%. The Nikkei 225 fell 1.06%, the Hang Seng declined 1.75%, and the CSI 300 slipped 0.42%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.37% and reached another record high.
European equity performance was mixed. The Stoxx 600 rose 0.04% and the CAC 40 added 0.03%, while the DAX declined 0.29% and the FTSE MIB fell 0.18%.
Market participants will continue to monitor technology-sector earnings, semiconductor guidance, AI-related investment commentary and movements in Treasury yields. These factors may influence short-term volatility across Nvidia, semiconductor shares and major equity indices.
